Music at Westmoor Primary Information

All children are given a variety of musical experiences throughout their time at Westmoor. We have regular singing assemblies and our Singing Strategy ensures that children learn new, exciting, age appropriate songs in class every half term. We fully embrace Wider Opportunities, which enables all children to learn to play instruments during the time at our school. This involves children learning to play recorders in Years 3 and 4 and ukuleles in Years 5 and 6. Private instrumental tuition is also offered to KS2 pupils should they choose to further specialise in a particular instrument (at a cost to parents). In class, children have access to a wide range of percussion instruments for class based musical work, alongside regular listening sessions in which they are introduced to classical works and music from other cultures. We have a ‘Composer of the Moment’ every half term and take part in musical projects such as 'BBC Ten Pieces' to further enrich the children's musical experience, understanding and appreciation. Children in KS2 also have the opportunity to join our school choir, which performs at many school and collaborative events. These include our fantastic annual Christmas performances and community sing-a-longs.
