Planning focuses upon children's interests, developmental areas and needs. The seven areas of learning and development shape educational programmes, and all areas of learning and development are important and inter-connected. The areas of learning and development are implemented through planned, purposeful play and through a mix of adult-led and child-initiated activity.

 

Every half term, an area of interest is selected that may foster the children's interests. Through a number of introductory activities and discussions, teachers then begin to plan a topic that particularly focuses upon the children's interests. Key areas for learning, reflecting upon prior learning and assessments, lead the weekly planning.

 

As the children progress into Reception, detailed Numeracy and Literacy weekly planning sheets are also created, outlining the main objectives, differentiated learning, teacher led activities, independent activities and opportunities for child initiated learning within this area of learning taking place during the week. These also include the short daily teacher input such as learning to read and maths talk.
