Pupil Premium Funding 2012-2013

The pupil premium funding received by Westmoor Primary school in 2012- 2013 was £20,400.

How was the funding used?

Appointment of a full time Teaching Assistant (TA) and a part time TA.

Impact

This allowed us to target support into specific classes. Primarily year 5, for whom Key Stage 1 results were lower than our average as a cohort. Also, targeted support into year 1 for every morning. This was to impact upon communication and behaviour. We have utilised the skills of our existing Every Child Counts (ECC) and Every Child a Reader (ECAR) teacher, to train existing teaching assistants in the best methods to provide highly effective targeted support.

Partial funding for an ECAR teacher.

Impact

Whilst the funding covers a fraction of the staff costs, it allowed our ECC teacher to train and implement an ECAR programme. It also allowed flexibility in her timetable for ECC to take groups of children, in addition to those on 1:1 support, and vitally, enabled weekly Continued Professional Development (CPD) for all teaching assistants in school. This teacher has also delivered whole staff CPD and is currently working with 3 teachers in action research to further improve excellent classroom practice. This is through peer observation, feedback, reflection and training.
